Prof Chapman was born in London and studied medicine at Cambridge University before accepting a position at the Westmead Hospital in 1987.Over the years he has established himself as a giant in the world of nephrology with special emphasis on transplantation. In 2014 Prof Chapman was named the number one expert on kidney transplantation in the world by Expertscape, a global organisation which objectively evaluates the top medical specialists and their contribution to science.
Prof Chapman has recently been appointed as the editor-in-chief of Transplantation, the prestigious international journal of The Transplantation Society. He has served as President of The Transplantation Society between 2008 and 2010. In 2015, he was appointed as a Companion of the Order of Australia for eminent service to medicine, particularly in the areas of clinical and biomedical research, to the development of ethical policy and practices for organ donation, acquisition and transplantation, and to renal medicine organizations and publications.
